Soprano
Avra performing at the premiere of "Rhythms of the Mediterranean" in Febuary of 2019.

Avra Haraka (age 22) is a soprano from Greece, graduate of the 4-year Vocal Studies & Opera course at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester), where she was certified with a Bachelor of Music with Honours. Avra trained her voice with mezzo-soprano Antonia Sotgiu at the RNCM, and now she continues her training with soprano Gina Poulou from the Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy. She is a versatile and heartfelt performer who also has an extensive background in Musical Theatre and loves to experiment with various musical styles. In October 2020, Avra released her debut Pop single "Castaway", a collaboration with upcoming Artist/Producer Elia. The track was described as "cutting-edge", "genre-blending", and "full of innovative production and alluring vocals".

During her time at the esteemed conservatoire in the United Kingdom, Avra focused on enriching her repertoire and vocal technique. She put on recitals, performed in masterclasses, worked with composition students, and participated in RNCM’s Opera Production of Massenet’s CENDRILLON. The highlight of her studies was taking on the lead role 'Serpina' from Pergolesi's opera LA SERVA PADRONA for the 2019 Opera Scenes, as well as being cast as 'Zerlina' from Mozart's opera DON GIOVANNI for the 2020 Opera Scenes. Avra also began to form her own creative project, "Rhythms of the Mediterranean", which she continues to lead. In this program she brings together classical and pop musicians in a crossover performance, showcasing a variety of timeless songs written by Greek and Spanish composers, including folk songs, tango, boléro, latin ballads, and some popularised renditions of famous melodies. The show was premiered in 2019 and received with great warmth and enthusiasm by the audience.

In earlier years, Avra was a member of the Greek National TV & Radio Children's Choir with whom she had the chance to perform in the most prestigious venues of Greece. At the age of 12, she was cast to sing the solo for the Title Song of a massive-hit musical TV Series “Patito Feo”, which aired on Greek TV (channel MEGA) in a dubbed version as “Patty”. The song Avra recorded featured on a CD which sold over 60,000 copies in Greece. Furthermore, Avra gained experience performing in the musical GODSPELL at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the world’s largest arts festivals, and the show received thrilling reviews. After this, her stagecraft skills flourished as she went on to portray diverse characters in numerous Musical Theatre productions at Campion International School of Athens, such as ‘Baby June’ in GYPSY, ‘ChaCha’ in GREASE, the ‘Mother Abbess’ in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and leading roles such as the mother-figure ‘Golde’ from THE FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and the extravagant ‘Reno Sweeney’ from ANYTHING GOES.

Now, Avra enjoys singing for events across the UK and feels privileged to collaborate with many of the creative musicians that surround her. Moreover, wanting to keep in touch with the process of getting into character, Avra attends weekly actor training classes for on-screen acting at ActUpNorth where she is taught inspiring in-depth methods by industry professionals and directors. Avra is an innovative and moving professional singer who is dedicated in performing with true sentimentality and aspires to keep pushing herself musically and creatively.

  Rhythms   of   the  Mediterranean

“Rhythms of the Mediterranean” is a concert programme that I put together, made up of songs originally from Greece and Spain, which displays the irresistible dance rhythms that lie at the core of the music. The show is a Classical Crossover performance that takes a journey through time, and so the audience can expect to hear an array of musical styles. Beginning with a folk and classical song repertoire, the music then dips into tango, boléro, and even a Latin ballad with a feverish cello solo. In the last section of the concert we perform world-famous melodies written by Greek or Spanish composers, and our arrangements blend the musical style of the original versions together with the modernised genre of the most recent, popular renditions. Moreover, we combine the old lyrics, either Greek or Spanish, with new English verses. In our first performance of the show at the Carole Nash Recital Room in the RNCM the band consisted of: Avra Haraka (Soprano), Celia Lopez (Piano), Jacob Barns (Cello), Sam Harding (Bass), George Hewett (Voice), Josh Savage (Percussion) — It was fantastic working with these musicians and they brought the songs to life in a magical way! We couldn’t be happier with the turn out; It was a full-house made up of an audience that was incredibly warm and enthusiastic! Each song in this programme is timeless and also speaks to my heart which is why I created this concert with the hope that the audience would feel touched in the same way.
